What do the provincial and municipal governments care about negative Canwest Global coverage? The National Post isn't sold here (and had a trifling circulation when it was), and Global is easily number three among newscasts in terms of influence (CBC and CTV are far ahead). I doubt Selinger and Katz are exactly cowering in fear of Peter Chura's on-air wrath.

David Asper says the project is still a go, reports The Manitoban.

The U of M's spokesman seems less certain, though:

When asked if the financial situation of Canwest has in anyway affected the progress on the stadium Barbara Biggar, a spokesperson for Asper, said the two were “totally unrelated.”

Currently the U of M is still involved in talks about the stadium, said John Danakas, director of public affairs at the U of M. He continued, “Discussions are ongoing. There was an extension given to the Crestwin Group, who were going to take on much of the financing of the project, and that’s the phase that we’re at right now.”

Interesting.

I'd bet this forum a hypothetical dollar, right now, that the stadium will not get built by Asper.

Yeah it doesn't look good right now, but David Asper still has until October to get his shat together in regards to The Elms Collection.

Here's hoping.

Wow, that's really going out on the limb.

The group behind a retractable-roof stadium proposal for downtown Regina unveiled plans yesterday for what can only be described as an audaciously ambitious facility.

Meanwhile in Winnipeg, we are approaching half a year of complete stony silence from the proponents of a humble outdoor stadium at the U of M. Hmm.

I want to play the hypothetical game!

My bet is that Asper will get a couple of more extension.
Then the stadium will crumble, killing one person.
Only then will the Bombers smarten up, realise something needs to get RFN and start back at square one with a call for bids.
